INTERVIEW: Alex Lur & Dish Dash presents Let Love Shine

Following their recent record "Let Love Shine" Chromatic sit down with Alex Lur.

Can you tell us a little about your experience so far in the music business?

I think it's great! I felt that it was tough at first, but now I'm lucky to have a hardworking circle of people to guide me through the challenges and obstacles of the music industry.

Where are you from? and do you feel that has a big impact on your sound?

I'm based in Montreal right now.

It's a very artistic city that draws influences from all around the world, but I wouldn't say it has an authentic sound like Chicago House or UK Garage.

We have one of the largest techno communities in the world, which has impacted my sound in some shape or form, but I mainly get inspired by things I see on the internet or hear from friends.

What artists and genres do you enjoy most right now?

Love Amapiano. Major League DJz, DJ Maphorisa, Vigro Deep.

Was your new record a big endevour? or did it come together easily?

Yeah, it was really awesome working with Dish Dash on this record. They sent me a groovy idea and I added my personal touch to it by adding some synth riffs.

They also flew me out to their native country of Saudi Arabia to play the track at MDL Beast Soundstorm festival. That event was huge!

Do you feel safe now to have a more experimental sound?

It wouldn't feel safe if it was truly experimental! I'm trying to find that sweet spot of making something experimental while making a bunch of people dance.

We all know that the digital revolution has affected sales, but has it affected creativity?

Not at all! No revolution will stop people from creating.

Can you tell us whats next for you?

I want to release some melodic techno and indie dance records in the coming months. After this, I want to start exploring African rhythms.
