Jei Blvck creates music that works in all settings and transcends genres. Her openness to a wide range of sound is what has both made him a widely loved favourite, but also someone who operates in her own parallel musical world. We had a chance to talk to him, so enjoy your reading and check out her latest releases.
Can you tell us a little about yourself? Where are you from / how did you get into music ?
Hey there, Thanks for having me. I was born in a small city in Texas but it wasn’t until I was 19 that I moved to Miami that I purchased my first copy of ableton and got involved in music. I think the scene and just being around really talanted people influenced me to learn how to produce electronic music.
I feel like the underground scene will come in strongly this year, do you think we can go back to “ Normal “ events and festivals?
The underground scene is definitely eager for a come back! The energy is there everyone is putting out amazing tracks. As far as “normal” I don’t see that happening for a while but I do see a lot of festivals and events returning hopefully this summer + fall in a safely way.
How is your sound evolving? What genres and artist do you enjoy most right now ?
My sound has changed so much over the years. I used to produce mostly melodic deep house but now I feel my tracks are more aggressive with emotional breaks and dirty synth drops.
And well , Id say I always have ARTBAT , Whomadewho, and Solee heavy on rotation They are deff a big inspiration and help me in the creative process of my tracks!
How do you feel your music affects or impacts your listeners?
I hope that my music helps people forget this pandemic and just relax. I always try to make tracks that I can have on repeat myself.
I put a lot of importance into my vocals and they mostly all talk about love so I hope that whatever it is my listeners are feeling that they are able to feel positive things/emotions.
What projects are you working on right now ?
Im working on a few songs with some dope visuals! Got a few bangers under my sleeve.. stay tuned
What can you tell us about latest E.P? How was it born ? Why did you want to convey?
These 2 tracks kind of merged together on this EP in a strange way. I think it was just during a time for me where I was letting go of past hurts.
“Waiting for you” talks about the wait! Waiting for someone that has no intention of returning. Even though deep in your soul you are tired of waiting, you still wait...
And “Too Far Gone” is the evolution of that. “Like hey, it’s kind of too late for you to try to come back!” kinda vibes.
But in all honesty what I truly wanna convey is whatever my listeners feel when they listen to these tracks! That’s what matters
What makes you happy?
During this pandemic. Simple things like having my family alive, safe, and just living in the present.
Do you have any final words of wisdom?
Never lose the spark in you and keep creating! x
