Moodshift are back again and they do it with a new release: ‘Heartless’. Following the success of recent single ‘Touch’, ‘Heartless’ once again highlights Moodshift’s effortless ability to blend pop-friendly vocals with deeper house sounds. This uniquely inspired duo have made a name for themselves through a handful of tasty songs.
The music of this unique duo is unclassifiable, but unrivaled. Close your eyes and let the sensations flow.
Hi Moodshift, thank you for answering our questions. I'd like to start by asking you about your technical approach to creating music. What gear do you normally use?
Of course! Happy to be here! We work in Ableton 11 and record the vocals in Logic Pro X. We love the workflow in Ableton and we still find it so inspiring and intuitive. We also use the Prophet 12, UDO Super 6 and Moog Sub 37 a lot. It really adds that special something to our productions.
What pieces of gear, or settings within your equipment do you think make your productions so unique?
We believe it’s more about the 3 of us rather than equipment. Since we all come from different musical backgrounds we bring something different to the table.
Your "Heartless" release is set to have a very big impact. What were you inspired by to create it? How do you turn your inspiration into a mechanically produced track?
Oliver started playing this synth and we all just started singing together. Sounds silly but we all got inspired right away and we wrote the song in like 15 minutes.
How has your sound evolved since you started?
It keeps evolving all the time, which is what we want! We’re constantly looking for new music to be inspired by, and one of the reasons why we release a new Moodshift Monday Mix every week. It’s a reason to keep crate digging and being inspired.
Do you think we can go back to "normal" events and festivals after this past year & a half? I feel like the underground scene will continue to persist, however would love to hear your thoughts.
Definitely! We think it’s more important than ever. We strongly believe that people are missing dancefloors. We surely do! It might take some time, but when the world is ready we’ll be the first to bring our records to the DJ booth.
How is your sound evolving? What artists and genres do you enjoy mixing right now?
We’re in this phase where we're trying to blend our different styles together and improve our songwriting and productions. We’ve been listening to a lot to Fred again.., Bicep to name a few. Love when dance music is emotional in that way.
How do you feel that your music influences or impacts your listeners?
Honestly we’re not sure yet! Once the world opens up and we’re able to play live we’ll get a better understanding. We just wanna make people feel something. Amplify an emotion! We want Moodshift to be something people can cry to, dance to, and laugh to.
What other projects are you working on right now?
Right now we’re working on new music. Really excited about our next single at the moment. It’s definitely something new for Moodshift!
What makes you happy?
Nothing beats writing a song you’re super excited about. Besides that, we’re very happy about thinking about playing live. We’ve been in the studio for more than a year now. Can’t wait to share our music with a crowd!
