INTERVIEW: POLA WOMEN

Intriguing electronic duo Pola Women land on Rework's Exlove label with a fantastic new six-track EP.

This duo is formed by Desiree Lune with Michel Kuebler, a couple that is divided between Berlin and Stuttgart and is inspired by the aesthetics of the disco and 80s cinema. Now they publish "Disco Disco", a work that consolidates the career of artists of the duo.

We have had the pleasure of interviewing the duo and this has been the result.

Can you tell us a little about your experience? Where are you from / how did you get into music?

We are both from Stuttgart but also are located in Berlin from time to time. Started to listen to my parents Records as a child, when I was a teenager I had some classical piano lessons.

How is your sound evolving? What artists and genres do you enjoy mixing right now?

We regularly meet in our studio at Kunstverein Wagenhalle to work on little ideas and first demo tracks I produced for our project. Later we try to record the vocals and fit them into the demos. We constantly mix disco, synthwave and other styles to create a unique sound that is inspired from Bands like New Order, Boy Harsher, Glass Candy, Geneva Jacuzzi.

How do you feel that your music influences or impacts your listeners?

We already got many nice feedbacks from friends and listeners about our music and that it fits perfectly into our actual time and that they can feel it.

What projects are you working on right now? What can you tell us about your last job?

We released many projects on our new label exlove records this year. The last job was to promote these projects, which is kind of a fulltime job. Desiree is working on some solo and art projects and I am working on new ideas for the next Rework album.

Where are you and what have you been doing now?

Woke up early by accident and sitting right in our Studio after having breakfast and watching a early morning Netflix movie. Starting to work on a Pola Women Live without using a computer.

Has that sound changed a lot in recent years? What is your musical criteria?

Think it did not change that much in the last years. We love to work with some of our favourite analogue synths and having our record collection near to get inspired.

Do you feel safe now to play a more experimental sound?

We always felt better to go more into an underground indie direction cause we never liked the mainstream and major music scene that much.

We all know that the digital revolution has affected sales, but has it affected creativity?

Yeah sure the problem is in times where you cannot go on stage and the money for streaming and digital sales is real low it's hard to concentrate on music cause you have to earn the money for living in other fields.

Can you tell us what your present and future projects are?

We are real busy to plan some future projects and releases for exlove records. Think the next big think will be two album releases next year. One from "Philipp Roller" and another new album from Rework.
