INTERVIEW: TTeo

TTeo is the pseudonym of Matteo Capreoli, a half-German, half-Italian singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer with a deep musical heritage. Fernando Antonio Capreoli, his father, left Salento, in southern Italy, for Germany in 1970, before forming the disco-funk-rock group Lovexpress, made up mainly of Italian and Scandinavian musicians, playing drums in the band and touring Norway, Sweden and Denmark from 1974 to 1979.

The latest single taken from Loveexpress 77 is the lo-fi but life-affirming Samba. The title comes in part from a term Matteo uses for anything that is “nice” or “sweet,” which is quite appropriate for this sweet Brazilian beauty. It is also based, of course, on the music of the band Lovexpress, and specifically their version of the Santana song of the same name, reinterpreted in their own unique style.

We have had the pleasure of speaking with the producer and this has been the result.

What was the first thing that attracted you to the world of electronic music?

I always loved the culture of electronic music. Instead of the other Productions I do it still has a special Freedom.

My best friend AljAlj always did electronic music and he inspired me often.

But my deepest connection comes from my dad who played Dancemusic of Funk, Soul Disco in the 70s with his Band „Loveexpress“ That’s where I got not only my inspiration but also the recordings which I used as samples for my Album „Lovexpress77"

Do you remember any album or concert that made you see everything in a different way?

It was D’Angelo’s concert in 2017 in Hamburg. After his concert I stayed for 4 Days in the Studio without leaving the place. I was so impressed by his unique sound which I always loved. It made me try find my own special unique sound. Which actually always changes and develops. But that was a special moment there.

Since you got into this professionally, what did you miss at a national, international level? And what helped you grow the most, including believing in yourself?

Believing in myself is the most important gift I have. I am thankful that I always had this energy with me. I think it’s all about learning and growing your experience and appreciate your life. So what helps me most its just keep on going. And doing what inspires me most in the moment. When you have good people surround you who supports you it’s a healthy position. Our Market is so weird and unpredictable so I think it’s the most important part of our job to stay close to yourself to not loose the LOVE for Music.

How did you decide to embark on your last job? How are you living the music scene in your city with this cloudy pandemic situation?

I don’t know haha. It changes every 5minutes so my answer now would maybe be another one tomorrow.

What are your favorite places to hang out in the city?

I love Cafe Cicala in Kreuzberg.

Love Tempelhofer Feld and a loooooooooot of other places.

Would love to play another show in Heideglühen. I liked that one

Have you had time to focus on making music, spending time with your family, or planning future projects? Are we still in a pandemic timezone?

My focus in life is Family and Music. So this never changed.

Do you have any final words of wisdom?

Im happy and thankful to take this ride on the Lovexpress right now and bringing back the music of my Dads old Band. Closing circles and keep on going is a blessing for creativity.

I mostly go to bed with one sentence I say to/ask myself „CHE VITA“ „what a life“ :)
