Eden Burns, (Sanboards duo with Tomas), begins his independent work. This uniquely inspired musician, who has made a name for himself through a handful of tasty songs. Disco, house, ambient... call it what you want, but Eden's music is unrivaled. Close your eyes and let the sensations flow.

Hi Eden! How’s it going?

Hello! I am great thank you :)

What was your first foray into the world of electronic music?

I started playing around on FL Studio when I was 11 or 12 years old! I was trying to make beats for singers, rappers etc.

I wanted to be a producer like rick Rubin or someone along those lines.

A few years later I got into electronic music! Nervous Records, Strictly Rhythm, all that 90s house stuff etc really got me in to House music. I was making a variety of music under different alias’s when I was around 15 and eventually got my first DJ gig! Since then I have probably been playing in clubs/bars almost every weekend.

In and out of the electronic music circle, who is an inspiration to you?

Nick Cave!

What was the last record store you visited and what did you keep there?

Skydiver here in Melbourne, hmmm I got a Coni Record and a new sex tags 7”

What can you tell us about Paws A Taieri Story? How was it born? What inspired you?

I had just gotten back to my hometown Dunedin in New Zealand, my Mum got this funny old Yamaha keyboard off my grandmother’s friend. I didn’t have any music equipment back home so I thought I should try record some stuff on this old keyboard. A few days go by and I had made these 4 pretty funny tracks..I thought it sounded like something cats would make/play if they made music, so then I wrote the story around it :)

What do you want to transmit with your music?

Hmmm make people happy, dance, think!?! Im really not sure :)

When you do b2b with Tomas (Sandboards), how much do you change the musical criteria? What unites you? What differentiates you?

I think anything goes when we play to be honest! It is a lot of fun :)

I think a Sandboards set is definitely more housey and maybe a bit balearic? Nu disco sorta stuff.. more so than what I would play by myself.

Sadly we have not played together in awhile as Tom lives over in Canada and I am based in Melbourne.

How did you both meet and start playing sets together?

We both met in Dunedin…there is not much of a scene there. There actually is not many people into dance music at all!

So when we met and found out we both liked the same music we instantly clicked! And started DJing together :)

You have a really eclectic sound when mixing, what has influenced you to be so musically varied in

your approach?

My dad put me on to some pretty good music from a early age, a lot of good punk stuff + all the Flying nun records etc (being from Dunedin).  Also from playing longer sets I would get pretty bored playing just house/techno, so I like to change it up!

What makes a good mix to you?

Something different! Weird! A bit all over the show..something not super planned out either.

For people that have never heard you play before, how would you describe your sound to them?

Pretty stripped back stuff I think! and a bit all over the show! Maybe a bit punky?

So what music are you currently obsessed by? Have been playing in every set or have been listening to every day?

I have been listening to a lot of 90s techno recently, especially the quite minimal stuff!

Wolfgang Voigt and Moritz von Oswald for example.

What is the craziest party you’ve ever been to?

Me and Tom played this pretty awesome party in Brussels Belgium a few years ago! I must of only been around 18/19 years old haha

It was our first time playing over in Europe. there were like 1500 + people there, a massive art/water installation in one room then us playing in the other. It was pretty surreal coming all the way from New Zealand to playing this monster party till like 6/7 in the morning or something!

What tracks would you recommend us to liven up the confinement?

My Girlfriend: Vanessa Worm - I Did a Lava Dance (Optimo Music)

+any thing on our label Head Rush :)

What makes you happy?

Cooking, making music, my lovely Girlfriend!

What pisses you off?

YouTube channels like Slav..nah..but yeah.

I am pretty positive guy ;)

Can you tell us something about your current or future projects? Where can we continue to see

and hear Eden?

I have a bunch more stuff coming out with Public Possession soon! Which I am very excited about! I am so happy to be working with Public Possession! They are the best!

Finally, Eden is a really interesting name, what’s the story behind it?

Its just what my Mama named me :) I don’t think there is a meaning behind it, I will have to ask my Mum!
