INTERVIEW: Dipolair

Dipolair creates music that works in all settings and transcends genres. His openness to a wide range of sound is what has both made him a widely loved favourite, but also someone who operates in his own parallel musical world. We had a chance to talk to him, so enjoy your reading and check out his latest releases.

Can you tell us a bit about your experience? Where are you from / how did you get into music?

I am French but since 2010 I travel the world with my family. I lived in the Indian ocean, in Asia, in North Africa and now I live in Brazil, in Sao Paulo. I started studying classical music with piano when I was a child. Then I opened up to other styles like rock, grunge, metal to finally arrive at electronic music. I had several musical projects in the different countries where I lived, which allowed me to integrate local sounds into my musical universe. I've always preferred live music even though I do DJ sets. When I'm on stage with my machines, I can add a new dimension to my productions and thrill the audience in a different way.

How is your sound evolving? What artists and genres do you like to mix at the moment?

My music is constantly evolving. My style has changed a lot over time. I went through many stages in my life and each of them added a stone to the building. I like experimenting with new sounds, new types of synths, adding traditional acoustic instruments, working with singers and musicians who have never done electronic music before. It's a new challenge every time to create a track that makes you dance and is inspiring at the same time.

How do you feel your music influences or impacts your listeners?

That's what I try to convey through my music. Even if I like to explore different sound universes, I like to bring strength and at the same time soul to my productions, make people dance, bring them joy and make them escape.

What projects are you working on right now? What can you tell us about your last job?

On May 20, I release two new tracks. the first is a collaboration with Brazilian producer ANGELLO(BR). Together, we composed "Do You Remember", a Melodic Techno track which will be released on the Manawa Records label. The second called "Introspection" is more Melodic House with vintage influences which will be released on the Cactunes Records label. I've produced a lot of tracks recently and I'm going to have regular releases in 2022. An other new track 'Ionica", which will be released in a few weeks, is a collaboration with an Italian musician who plays traditional instruments from Calabria. I'm super proud of this collaboration because the track is powerful and at the same time very emotional.

Where are you and what have you been doing now?

I currently live in Brazil and am currently focusing on the development of the Manawa Records label alongside the production of new tracks and live performances.

Has that sound changed much in recent years? What is your musical criteria?

My music is constantly evolving. My style has changed a lot over time. I went through many stages in my life and each of them added a stone to the building. I like experimenting with new sounds, new types of synths, adding traditional acoustic instruments, working with singers and musicians who have never done electronic music before. It's a new challenge every time to create a track that makes you dance and is inspiring at the same time.

Do you feel safe now to play a more experimental sound?

I've always loved experimenting with sound. My travels and my encounters with musicians from all over the world have brought me a lot. This is what I try to integrate into my music with my dogma: Music has no borders!

Can you tell us about your present and future projects?

As I now live in Sao Paulo, I develop collaborations with Brazilian musicians and producers. It's very stimulating because Brazil is a country where music is very present on a daily basis and Sao Paulo is currently a hub in electronic music. I meet new people every day and the dynamic is there to release very high quality tracks.
