INTERVIEW: PSTW presents Fixation

PSTW, namely Paul Sansome and Tom Watkins are a DJ / Producer duo from Manchester (UK) and owners of Lacuna Recordings. They've long been spreading soulful melodies, colorful instrumentation, dreamy harmonies, and surgically engineered dancefloor rhythms. Now they return with “Fixation” that could be defined as emotional electronics that fluctuate from the quietest atmosphere to the most energetic bass and kick, passing through beautiful orchestral textures.

We have had the pleasure of speaking with the producer about his current work and future projects.

Can you tell us a little about your experience? Where are you from / how did you get into music?

DJ & Producer duo from Cheshire, UK and Founders of Lacuna Recordings. We started DJ'ing together back in 2014 around Manchester at various club nights before launching our own events in 2016 called Lacuna, eventually becoming Lacuna Recordings. Since then we've played across the UK, Europe and Ibiza at various club nights and festivals. Naturally, production soon followed and have since secured releases on Surge Recordings, Fine Music, Music Related and more, with some great releases scheduled for 2021. It's an exciting time for us!

I feel like the underground scene will recover quickly this summer. Do you think we can go back to "normal" events and festivals?

We'd like to think so! Provided everyone tries their best to stick to the rules the government have set. The vaccine roll out is giving us all hope and it's great to see festivals and club nights been planned for late summer.

How is your sound evolving? What artists and genres do you enjoy most right now?

We feel our sound and skills are constantly evolving. We take inspiration from all sorts of areas and music styles both from established legends in the scene to new and upcoming artists also. Some artists we have loved over the years are S.A.M, Janeret & Shonky. But we also love the chords and ambience from 90's trance, Chicane and beyond!

How do you feel that your music influences or impacts your listeners?

We just want to make people dance and feel good. Whether it's original music from us or putting our twist on a remix, we feel we've found a style which reflects all the elements we've always been inspired by ourselves!

What projects are you working on right now?

Right now we've had a couple of tracks signed to VA's this year, we've worked on 3 collaboration EP's, two of which are signed to well renowned labels! One of those will be announced in the next month or so which we're super hyped for. We're also working on our first EP for Lacuna Recordings.. a project which means a lot to us! Lots going on which we can't wait to share.

How was Fixation born? What did you want to express?

Fixation was born at a time when we used to go to a lot of venues like Mint Warehouse in Leeds and some real dingy clubs. We took a lot of inspiration from the music which we felt represented and fitted the atmosphere at these places. it's a lot deeper and more rolling than our usual stuff, but it was really cool to experiment with something a little different!

What piss you off?

Ticket touts, tangled wires, Boris Johnson & lorries

What makes you happy?

Friday 6pm, Sun, Thuishaven (Amsterdam), Greek Gyros's and Rum

Do you have any final words of wisdom?

Support the industry, now more than ever! Embrace every second of that long awaited first dance back when events return.
