Andrey and Stas aka Radial Gaze, one of the freshest production duos to emerge from Russia's vibrant underground scene, releasing their EP 'Refined' on April 23, 2021. The project is released on the independent based label. in Berlin Thisbe Recordings with three original songs and two remixes. Building on Andrey's experience as a resident DJ at the Skotny Dvor club and Stas' experience as a sound designer and theater and musical director, 'Refined' is a club-oriented work the duo wants to redefine themselves by. His latest work is pure widescreen electronics, sometimes dark, often hopeful with an eye on the stars, but based on the sheer cathartic need to create it.
From their first track "Fluffy Corn Syrup", starting with a great soundscape and strange synthetic elements, setting the stage for the sound of the album, going through the precise and hissing
'Refined', to the agile and forceful "Dense Rays",
we find ourselves with a wild and overwhelming adventure, capable of completely resetting us. A perfect mix of past, present and future, filled with cold times with feelings of sadness, excitement or hope. We are facing a strange group, oriented to the dance floor, which makes it the perfect track to lose your mind at the club.
The Theus Mago remix maintains many elements of the original while making the soundscape more pronounced and triggered. Adding a new 80s-style sci-fi synth line, this version is weirder than ever.
Lastly, the remix of "Fluffy Corn Syrup" by Romain FX, plays with various styles of keyboards giving this version a much more melodic sound than the original. A brilliant track, this deep and hopeful song is reminiscent of a spring day.
"Refined" is a euphoric psychedelic experience, in which each song takes the listener on his own sonic journey, until closing a set as experimental as it is intense and addictive, which takes control of oneself like a sweet poison, while progressively transporting us, as few producers with a certain fluency are willing to do so.
Everything is reminiscent, a whole nostalgia that every time it happens it was better. And that may be the case, at least in the cosmos of this album, with a strong personality and a studio full of analog machines that have led him to form a new identity.
We do not know what the future holds, but we do know that this single is testimony to a turbulent and uncertain present, which will remain in our memory forever. For jobs like this, we can keep fighting for a better future.
