Dina Summer presents Children Of The Night

Dina Summer have always had one foot in pop and the other in the underground, and Children Of The Night might be their clearest expression of that balance yet.

The record is full of oversized synth melodies and memorable vocal lines, but underneath the pop surface there’s a distinctly darker electronic pulse. “Fuel” and “Komodo 3000” are the obvious club weapons, while “Rat Race” and “On The Road” bring a more melancholic, guitar-driven side to the record.

The Bela Lugosi reference could easily have resulted in something overly theatrical, but instead the album feels playful and confident. There’s darkness here, but also colour, humour and a strong sense of songwriting.

A very enjoyable release from a project that seems increasingly comfortable blurring the line between club music and synth-driven pop.
