INTERVIEW: Adaru drops his debut EP 'Cruisers'

ree

With the release of Cruisers, his debut EP on Collecting Dots Records, Adaru steps confidently into the spotlight, delivering a playful yet emotive club-ready statement. The three-track record showcases a dynamic range—from the bouncy title track to the deeper, introspective tones of Mess, and the explosive energy of Can’t Stop. Behind each production is a story of curiosity, growth, and raw creative instinct.

We caught up with the rising producer to talk about the journey behind Cruisers, the lessons learned in the studio, and how he channels his DJ energy into the music that’s already moving dancefloors.

How did the collaboration between you and Collecting Dots Records come about for your debut release, ‘Cruisers’?

Over 2 years ago, OMRI. did a masterclass at my music school, where he mentioned he was starting a label called Collecting Dots. The moment he said it, I set a personal goal to release with them one day. A few months later, I sent him some tracks by email. He vibed with them, and here we are.

Each track on the EP brings a different vibe, what inspired the contrast between the playful energy of ‘Cruisers’ and the deeper tones of ‘Mess’?

All three tracks were made at different moments over a few months. I think the contrast reflects how I show up in the studio each day. Different moods. Different energy. I don’t usually overthink it. Whatever I’m feeling just flows into the track, often without me realizing it until later.

‘Can’t Stop’ stands out for its vocal chops and high-energy feel. What was your approach to crafting that track?

I actually made it the day after a session at OMRI’s studio. Just watching his workflow taught me so much. The next day, I got into my own studio, tried out some of the techniques I picked up, and ‘Can’t Stop’ was born. It came together fast and felt really fun and energetic from the start.

How would you describe your sound as a producer, and how does this EP reflect your musical identity?

My sound is groove-forward, playful, and a bit unpredictable. I love it when a track feels like it has its own character. The EP reflects different sides of me, each track came from a unique headspace, but they’re all connected by the same drive to make people move and feel something a little different.

This is your first official release, what did you learn from the process of bringing it to life in the studio?

So much. But three key takeaways:

A) Don’t be afraid to experiment, throw ideas in, and keep what sticks.

B) Push every element to its best version and make sure they move together. When everything clicks, you feel it.

C) Simplicity wins, don’t overcomplicate.

Collecting Dots Records has quickly built a reputation for championing fresh, floor-focused music. What does it mean to you to be part of their growing catalogue?

Releasing on Collecting Dots was the first real milestone I set for myself, even before the label launched. To now be part of their catalogue feels like a dream realized and a huge honor. It’s also a kind of personal validation that I’m on the right path.

How do you translate your infectious DJ energy into your studio work? Was that a challenge or a natural progression?

The energy came naturally—I’ve always created with the dancefloor in mind. The real challenge was translating what I hear in my head into a finished track. That learning curve never really ends, and I love that. I’m constantly refining, constantly leveling up.

Looking ahead, what can we expect from you after the ‘Cruisers’ EP? Are there more releases or live sets on the horizon?

Definitely, I’m in the studio almost every day, and there’s a lot of new music on the way, including more with Collecting Dots. This EP is just the start. Big things are coming.
