INTERVIEW: BIRDS OF MIND

Alex H. and Adrian C are the Parisian duo Birds of Mind, and this year they have already released this magnificent compilation with a series of amazing remixes and singles. They come after having created an excellent catalogue of deep and emotionally profound house beats on this label, as well as on Kindisch. They have already released a cult album before, and their sounds regularly climb the Beatport Organic House charts. Now, they offer a panoramic window into their current world with this Body Language selection that includes many original tracks and remixes.

We had the pleasure of interviewing him and this is the result.

Alex, Adrian, thanks for chatting with Chromatic Club! How’s life?

Thanks for having us!

Life is pretty good—there’s a lot going on this year, and we’re very excited about what 2025 holds.

This month, you’re unveiling a raft of new tracks and remixes for Get Physical Music’s 25th edition of ‘Body Language.’ How did the opportunity arise to drop this impressive selection?

We had the chance to release our first album Journey on Kindisch, along with two great singles, Mi Pena and No Time for Tears, on Get Physical.

When Philipp offered us the opportunity to curate the next Body Language edition, we were speechless.

The concept was simple: create five original tracks and five remixes of our choice from the GP catalog. It took some time to dig through their catalog, but we already had a few memorable tracks in mind that we wanted to reinterpret.

Our goal was also to produce an album paying tribute to the 2011–2013 deep house era, especially emphasizing the bassline energy from that time.

What are your favorite tracks from Body Language Vol. 25 and why?

We both agree the standout track is Don’t Leave Me Here, which was originally named Don’t Go Far Off.

What makes it special is the inclusion of Pablo Neruda’s daughter reciting an English translation of his famous poem Don’t Go Far Off.

We loved the poem and wanted to incorporate its beauty and depth into our music. The result is a deep, melancholic track that carries so much emotion—it’s one of our favorites.

That said, we love all the tracks, to be honest!

We’d love to know more about you and how you met.

It’s a very simple story: two guys from very different walks of life brought together by a shared love of music.

Our mutual friend Ryan introduced us in a studio almost 10 years ago. Six hours later, Ankara was born.

The next day, we signed the track to Francesca Lombardo’s record label. Artists like NU, Stavroz, and Francesca herself remixed it, and before we knew it, we started getting gigs.

We owe so much to Francesca and Ryan—they were like angels in our artistic journey. Without them, we wouldn’t be here today, living our dream.

As we approach the end of 2024, could you share some personal highlights? What was your favorite set of the year?

This is an interesting question!

We’ve had major highlights, especially this summer.

We hold residencies at Void and Alemagou in Mykonos. Mykonos has a special place in our hearts—it’s where much of our artistic evolution happened. The audience there is incredibly supportive and gives us so much love. Playing there is truly addictive.

Another standout was our set at The Yard in Lisbon. It was a complete surprise—a huge crowd, an amazing vibe, and a deep connection with the dance floor. It was truly magical.

As a Paris-based duo, what club has had the biggest impact on your career?

Two clubs come to mind:

Without a doubt, Cirque Bonheur was the most impactful between 2011 and 2014.

Olivier Van Temsch and Rasmus Michau hosted this crazy event where everyone had to dress funny or eccentric to get in.

The music was curated by Nadir Nasayah (who now runs HAIKU). The atmosphere was magical, and the music was deeply underground.

We went every weekend—that’s where we first discovered the Berlin and Ibiza scenes, which inspired what we do now.

Today, we’re monthly residents at Gate Club with Nadir as music director, which feels like coming full circle. We’re so grateful for this opportunity and his trust. At Gate, we’re trying to revive that musical movement by playing some of the dancefloor bangers we loved at Cirque Bonheur back in the day.

What do you have coming up in 2025 outside of music?

Outside of music—ah, that’s a good one!

We’ve just opened a studio in Paris called The Nest.

It’s a space where we can collaborate with inspiring artists and explore new music.

As producers and DJs, staying creative is essential, and The Nest gives us the perfect environment to develop music and experiment with new techniques and ideas.

We’re always excited to leave the studio and share our passion with the world.

This version cleans up the language, corrects typos, and ensures a smooth, professional flow while keeping your voice intact. Let me know if you’d like any additional adjustments!
