INTERVIEW: LAOR

Celebrated healer, musician, speaker and retreat leader LAOR is pleased to announce the release of her new single, “I Feel The Light.” It is now available on all platforms. I Feel The Light captures LAOR’s unique blend of healing and artistry, journeying deeply into a place of inner peace, helping both her and her listeners follow a brighter, higher path. The piece combines gentle strings, with soulful shakers, guided by a strong backbone pounded by a drum and an uplifting melody, until the raw sounds of nature consciously lead the listener back to a place of sanctuary.

With over 20 years of researching the alchemy of sound, LAOR’s music is a testament to her deep understanding of the healing potential of music. “I Feel The Light” is the next chapter in a magical, story-filled book.

We had the pleasure of interviewing her and this was the result.

Congratulations on the release of your new single, "I Feel The Light"! Can you share with us the inspiration behind this piece and the creative process that brought it to life?

Thank you so much for all your blessings. This sweet, lightful song arrived to me one evening a couple of years ago while sitting with 2 good friends for some master mind and heart session where we share our visions for the next year… At one point, they’ve asked me to play something and open a singing space for everyone. We did…We breathed together, hummed and found our voices in a free way and suddenly this song arrived. I always love to say, I am a song catcher. So this song landed from the stars and I caught it. (-: Later in the studio I took the time to write the lyrics and create with my producer, Ofer Eshed (IL) the arrangments and feel of the song, wanting to take it t a fresh place of instrumental and rhythmic arrangements and bring an incredible trio as a backing vocals to give it this gospel sounds which I heard from beginning in it. 

Your music blends healing and artistry beautifully. How do you approach the integration of these elements when composing your tracks?

Well, that’s a great question. For me music is here in our world to help the human being understand and express its humanity. My music is born through my voice which I use as a freedom and healing tool rather than entertainment. I express my humanity through my voice and I encourage others to do so. My music is arriving from many spaces of the healing realms such as sacred ceremonies and song circles when many of my tunes are aimed to bring relief, healing and magical new inspiration for the ones singing them or listening. So when approaching composition, the healing realms are the ones that set the tone for the composition to bring beauty and love to the human heart. 

"I Feel The Light" features a mix of soft strings, shakers, and strong drum beats. How do you choose and combine these specific instruments and sounds to create your signature healing music?

Well, I sit with my wonderful producer, Ofer Eshed and we are feeling together where the spirit of the song wants to go. I love to invent each time a new universe and the song for “I feel the light”, instead of taking it to the “expected” gospel and drums vibe, we decided to take a new direction for the drum beat which gave the song a new refreshing flavor. I feel the signature for my music comes from the courage to listen deeply to the song and my heart and visions rather than create something that will fit in a box.. If that makes sense (-:

With over 20 years of research in sound alchemy, what are some of the most significant discoveries you've made about the healing potential of music?

Music is healing. It is the space where we can connect without language or our egoic selves. It goes straight to our emotional bodies and supports us in all of our colors. My main discovery or more to say, understanding is that our voices have the ability to heal, transcend and inspire our souls in infinite ways. When we use our voices in a natural, free and wild way, there’s incredible amount of energy, life force and new knowledge and understandings where our hearts thrive and unite in the most incredible way. When we allow our voices to express our hearts, even the sky is not the limit. Sing Sing Sing your song. 

You've performed at numerous international festivals. How do you feel your live performances differ from your studio recordings in terms of creating a healing and transformative experience for your audience?

Well, My biggest love in my musical path is creating with the audience a memorable moment of breath and singing that never happened before. My live appearances are an extatic prayer of love and life where we truly expand and open our hearts to the alchemy of the moment. Singing with people is my biggest love. It is so inspiring to create together something that was never there before and tuning our hearts to the present moment with pure love and gratitude. That is so so powerful.

Your music has resonated with listeners worldwide, amassing over 4 million streams. What do you think it is about your music that connects so deeply with people seeking inner peace and healing?

My music comes from the realms of love and healing. What do I mean? When I create music or receive it from the stars (I am a song catcher (-: It’s only purpose is to remind ourselves of our true nature, of our amazing heart and of the unity of us as humans thus creating a healing vibration that is bigger then anything that wants to entertain. My music is not entertainment. It is a space of prayer, deep reconnection and healing. 

Looking ahead, what other projects or directions do you envision exploring in your musical journey and your mission to promote healing through sound?

I have 2 projects on my plate. In the end of the month, I am going to create the Forest sessions, a gathering of singing people in nature where we will sing a few ceremonial songs of mine and a couple of other songs and I will capture it in video as well as record it. It will come out to Youtube as a bundle of love. And then, my second Album is on the way with I feel the light being the first single. It is still in the making however very exciting new times of love and beauty. I can’t wait to share it with everyone. Love is all we SING. Thank you and many blessings to everyone.
