Liminal MX: Save Me (Remixes)

Some remix albums exist to extend a release cycle. Others feel like contractual afterthoughts, assembled from spare parts long after the original record has lost its urgency. Save Me (Remixes) belongs to neither category. Instead, it functions as a document of artistic relationships—a snapshot of a label ecosystem that has grown around one of electronic music's most promising young talents.

When Save Me arrived in late 2024, it represented a leap of faith. Liminal MX was barely eighteen years old, a producer from Guadalajara with little more than raw talent and a handful of independent releases to his name. Yet Marginalia founder ELIF heard something larger than potential. Rather than asking for singles or testing the waters with an EP, she committed to a full album. In today's dance music landscape, where metrics often speak louder than music itself, it was a remarkably old-fashioned decision: trust the art first.

Two years later, Save Me (Remixes) feels less like a victory lap and more like evidence that the gamble paid off.

What immediately distinguishes the project is its sense of purpose. The seven remixers assembled here are not random names selected for streaming appeal or market reach. Each artist has a genuine connection to Marginalia, to ELIF, or to Liminal MX himself. The result is a compilation that feels surprisingly cohesive despite spanning multiple corners of melodic house, progressive house, and electronic music's increasingly fluid middle ground.

Mustafa Ismaeel opens proceedings with a warm, groove-driven reinterpretation of "Hold Forever." Known for releases on labels such as Bedrock and Crosstown Rebels, he transforms the album's introduction into something more kinetic without sacrificing its emotional core. The live vocals remain central, floating above rhythmic foundations that gently push the track toward the dancefloor. It is an elegant reminder that subtlety often carries more power than reinvention.

Mehill's take on the title track arrives with perhaps the strongest emotional connection to the source material. Long before Save Me became a label release, he was already supporting Liminal MX's work. That familiarity is audible throughout his remix. Rather than dramatically reshaping the original, Mehill strips it back and rebuilds it with patient precision, finding new dimensions inside the existing framework. It feels less like a remix and more like a conversation between two producers who understand each other's language.

Fur Coat's version of "Remember" provides one of the compilation's most club-oriented moments. The Venezuelan-born, Barcelona-based producer applies his trademark melodic sensibility with confidence, expanding the track's emotional architecture into something larger and more cinematic. Yet what stands out isn't simply the technical execution; it's the balance between scale and intimacy. The original's melancholy survives intact beneath the bigger drums and broader horizons.

The album's midpoint belongs to JAMIIE, whose rework of "Feel Me" is among the strongest tracks here. Blending Afro-house influences with melodic textures, she creates a slow-burning progression that rewards patience. Nothing feels rushed. Every element unfolds deliberately, allowing tension and release to emerge naturally. The result captures the communal energy of the dancefloor while preserving the introspective qualities that made Liminal MX's originals so compelling in the first place.

ELIF's remix of "Fast Line" carries an additional layer of significance. As label founder, mentor, and manager, her relationship to the material differs from everyone else's. Rather than imposing a dramatic stylistic shift, she carefully amplifies what was already there. The vocals remain largely untouched while glitch-infused textures and deeper rhythmic structures gradually transform the track into something more nocturnal. It is one of the collection's most understated contributions, and perhaps one of its most effective.

If there is a true wildcard, it comes from derderwandert's reinterpretation of "With Me." Built around his signature spoken-word additions layered against the original vocal, the remix introduces an entirely new narrative dimension. The concept could easily have felt intrusive, but instead it deepens the emotional dialogue already embedded within the song. It is a bold creative choice that pays off precisely because it feels personal rather than performative.

Predex closes the record with "Complicated," delivering a remix that mirrors his reputation as one of the scene's most meticulous craftsmen. Where some producers chase immediate impact, Predex favors gradual revelation. Details emerge with each listen. Melodic fragments shift subtly. Textures evolve almost imperceptibly. It is a fitting conclusion to an album defined by careful listening and artistic trust.

What ultimately makes Save Me (Remixes) resonate is that it reflects a community rather than a collection of individual achievements. The project charts not only the evolution of a young producer but also the growth of a label willing to invest in people as much as records. Across these seven tracks, one hears mentorship, friendship, loyalty, and mutual respect translated into sound.

Liminal MX remains at the center of the story. Now twenty years old, he has spent the past two years building a career that seems increasingly impossible to ignore. Yet this release avoids turning his ascent into mythology. Instead, it celebrates something more valuable: the idea that talent flourishes when given genuine support.

As remix albums go, Save Me (Remixes) succeeds because it understands its purpose. It does not attempt to replace the original album. It expands its world. In doing so, it captures a rare feeling in contemporary electronic music—a sense that careers, labels, and artistic identities are still being built through belief, connection, and shared vision rather than algorithms and momentum alone.
