OTEE presents Cloud Collision

With Cloud Collision, OTEE introduces Open Water with a five-track EP that places rhythm and atmosphere at the centre of its musical identity. The Berlin-based DJ and producer draws on years of experience behind the decks and in the studio, delivering a debut that feels less concerned with immediate impact than with the gradual development of tension on the dancefloor.
The opening title track, “Cloud Collision”, establishes the record’s underlying philosophy. Rather than relying on oversized drops or dramatic changes in direction, OTEE works through repetition, carefully measured progression and the interplay between percussion and space. The result is a functional but considered piece of club music, built around the kind of groove that reveals its character over time.
“Moto” continues along a similarly understated path, exploring the relationship between movement and texture. There is a sense of forward momentum throughout, with the rhythmic framework doing much of the heavy lifting. It is an approach that reflects a producer more interested in the cumulative effect of individual elements than in making each sound compete for attention.
“Aktion Reaktion” introduces another dimension to the EP’s rhythmic vocabulary. Its title suggests a relationship between opposing forces, an idea that translates naturally into the push and pull of club-oriented electronics.
OTEE maintains a firm sense of control, allowing the groove to develop without sacrificing the record’s restrained character.
The B-side shifts the focus towards a slightly different perspective. “Retrograde” suggests movement that is never entirely linear, creating space for a more introspective reading of the EP’s sound. Rather than breaking with what came before, it expands on the same principles of repetition and gradual transformation. “Parabola”, meanwhile, closes the record with a title that evokes a curved trajectory, an apt conceptual counterpart to music that develops through subtle shifts rather than sudden gestures.
Across its five tracks, Cloud Collision demonstrates a clear understanding of the relationship between production and dancefloor functionality. OTEE’s drum-driven, loop-based approach gives the material a sense of cohesion, while the atmospheric elements prevent it from becoming purely utilitarian. There is room here for both physical movement and attentive listening, particularly in the way the arrangements balance persistence with restraint.
As the first release on Open Water, Cloud Collision also serves as an introduction to the label’s potential direction. It presents a sound rooted in Berlin’s club culture without leaning too heavily on familiar references or obvious stylistic markers. Instead, OTEE focuses on the fundamentals: rhythm, space and the slow accumulation of energy.
The result is a debut that favours consistency over spectacle. Cloud Collision is designed for the deeper end of the floor, where a track’s effectiveness is measured not by how quickly it demands attention, but by how naturally it becomes part of the room.
