REVIEW: ESSEKS presents “JUSTICE SERVED”

Actualizado: 12 abr 2022

In modern music, visual art has never been more inherent in sound storytelling. Following up on last month's single, "The Uncertain Future," Brooklyn's Esseks deliver an immersive slice of crafted art and sounds on his latest effort, "Justice Served." With it, the producer presents the next visual and sound chapter of his next EP due out later this spring.

"Justice Served" dives into a darker, more arcane vibe than the project's first single. The track opens with creepy synths, leading into crooked and warped basslines. Written over the course of the last two years, the song reflects the producer's isolation and anxiety brought on by the uncertainty of the pandemic.

There are artists who, in order to go beyond their sound, have to get rid of their original name and create another, but then there are others who, in order to go further, have to rediscover themselves, to create a sound whose starting point is not born so much of the attempt to cross borders and recover them. This is the case for Brooklyn producer Esseks, who recently released "Justice Served."

“Justice Served” is a serious work, carefully cared for, that lends itself to starting it and not returning to reality until it is finished: the headphones are like the oxygen cylinder that allows you to design this great sound twist to the bottom, of this cosmic orbit, and being there in a state of hypnotic fascination, which allows us to reflect, through folklore, on our past.

Esseks consolidates with this album with a more refined sound, but also raised from a creative point of view necessary to avoid falling into torpor or boredom, to which the genre tended by inertia. From each note arises an accumulation of harmonic and melodic beauty, where the sounds evolve as we approach the central corpus of the theme, maintaining a constant rhythm, which makes us keep our feet on the ground, while the rest of the sounds free us. and shoot us to the beyond

“Justice Served” is a rarity that connects this producer with new sounds, but without losing its festive essence, where the differences between musical styles and eras mix and harmonize with tremendous lightness. Esseks has shown us once again, because in turbulent times, good music is not only made of electronic darkness.
