Can you describe your musical style and influences in just one hashtag?

What's the first thing you do every morning and how does it set the tone for your day?

I don’t know if this is a good thing, but I always play game training-type games on my phone like Sudoku or similar.

When you're in the car, what's typically playing on your stereo, and do you have any guilty pleasure tracks or playlists?

I am going to come across as very boring, but I like to listen to LBC and call-in shows as I like hearing people’s opinions. However, if I am playing music, which is very rare, I listen to a lot of Michael Jackson. Typically, three songs: "Who Is It," "Give In to Me," and "Liberian Girl."

Can you recall the moment when you realised you wanted to pursue a career in Electronic Music?

I do remember, and I would say it was 11 years ago when I used to go under a different alias. I was really taken aback the first time I heard the track "Something Special" by Miguel Campbell. That’s when I knew I wanted to be an Electronic Music Artist.

Looking back on your childhood, what kind of kid were you and how do you see those traits reflected in your work today?

I was always a music lover as a kid. I loved RnB and slow jams. I was quite an emotional kid, and I think that is evident in my tracks.

Who or what inspires you the most in your creative endeavours?

I think my tracks are inspired by how I feel each time I start making a track. My emotion is the architect of all my tracks.

Are there any specific fears or anxieties that motivate you to push yourself further in your career?

I think the biggest motivator for me is realising I always come back to music no matter how far and fast I try to run. So, it lets me know this is where I need to be and what I should be doing every time.

Everyone has a guilty pleasure—what's yours?

Motorcycle rides are mine. The freedom to almost do what you want. I believe it’s one of the closest feelings you can get to being truly free.

If you could invite three people, living or deceased, to dinner, who would they be and why?

Michael Jackson, my mum, and my dad. My parents both passed when I was young, so just sitting down and having a meal with them today would be a dream. Michael Jackson is because I believe he is the greatest Artist of all time. I would love to ask him musically how he stayed himself in terms of the grittiness and sound choices, especially in the songs I spoke about earlier.

How do you stay inspired and avoid creative burnout, especially with the demands of producing, performing, and promoting your music?

To be honest, I experience feelings of burnout a lot, but because I’m passionate about music, I persevere. I always remember that the feeling of finishing a track will outweigh all the tiredness, and it makes me feel great each time I get there.

Can you discuss any upcoming collaborations or projects you're particularly excited about?

I have a release with an artist called Hempress Kango coming out and I honestly cannot wait to share it with you all. It’s one of my favourite productions to date.

What are some things you can't live without in your daily life?

My music, my partner, and YouTube - and also those brain-training games I mentioned earlier. I’m also a sucker for Snus; those who know will know haha.

What's one piece of advice you would give to your younger self?

I would say never quit because this is what you are meant to do. You’ve got this.

What's your biggest pet peeve when performing live?

The worst for me is smoke machines because I need people to see me and how I feel. Which I feel, in turn, will resonate with them and, in essence, be infectious to the crowd.

Finally, looking ahead, what are your long-term goals for your career and how do you plan to achieve them?

I plan to be a household name in Electronic Music. And my plan is to consistently release music; that is the way.

DJ Dris’ commitment to his craft and dedication to growing his reputation make him a force to be reckoned with within Electronic Music today.
