dog on acid — Reduce Me to Nothingness

With Reduce Me to Nothingness, Stockholm-based producer dog on acid makes his debut on трип with a six-track EP that approaches minimal techno as a space for emotional confrontation. Built around a dub-soaked aesthetic and a distinctly introspective sensibility, the record explores the relationship between inner turmoil and physical release, finding in the dancefloor a temporary refuge from the weight of everyday existence.

The track titles offer an immediate glimpse into the EP's psychological landscape. “i hate who i am, but i can learn to live with it” and “i just want to feel something” articulate a struggle with identity and emotional numbness, while “it's all my fault” suggests the familiar cycle of self-recrimination that can accompany periods of personal uncertainty. Rather than treating these sentiments as a narrative that needs to be resolved, dog on acid places them within the framework of club music, where repetition can become a form of reflection and movement an alternative to overthinking.

The dub influence is central to the record's identity. Its minimal framework offers room for atmosphere and gradual shifts in tension, prioritising immersion over spectacle. This approach suits the emotional territory of the material: the music becomes less about escaping difficult feelings altogether than about finding a way to coexist with them. There is an inherent contradiction at work here, as the inward-looking nature of the titles meets the outward, communal function of the dancefloor.

“lain is lain” and “this could be it” add further chapters to a tracklist that reads almost like a fragmented internal monologue. The closing impression is one of unresolved tension rather than cathartic certainty. That ambiguity feels appropriate for a record whose central impulse is not necessarily to offer answers, but to create the conditions for temporary relief.

For dog on acid, Reduce Me to Nothingness marks a fitting introduction to трип. Personal without abandoning the functional possibilities of minimal techno, the EP understands that dancing away one's demons is rarely a definitive solution. Sometimes, the value lies in the few hours during which they become easier to carry.
