INTERVIEW: Schott & Alicea

Volt EP marks the debut collaboration between Schott and Alicea on the newly founded Munich Techno label, Telur. This driving, energetic, and atmospheric channels release Detroit-inspired sounds with a fast-forward intensity.

Volt EP delivers three boomy, hypnotic tracks that capture the raw essence of Techno, crafted for deep immersion on the dancefloor.

We have had the pleasure of interviewing them and this has been the result.

Your music combines raw energy with serene atmospheres. How do you achieve such emotional complexity?

Alicea: It’s all about finding balance. For me, the key lies in combining driving techno elements, like a powerful kick drum, with dreamy chords and effects such as reverb, echo, and phaser. These tools create a warm, atmospheric sound that resonates emotionally while maintaining the energy needed for the dancefloor. Dub Techno has always spoken to me on a deeper level—it blends those raw and serene elements perfectly, and I try to channel that same emotional complexity in my own productions.

How does the concept of dreams influence your work, particularly in Flowing Dream? Alicea: Flowing Dream feels like being in a trance or a dream—floating above the clouds, where time moves differently. When I close my eyes and dance to it, I get this hopeful yet slightly melancholic feeling. That’s the essence of a dream for me: a place between reality and imagination. The track’s flowing chords mirror that dreamlike state, creating a warm, immersive atmosphere.

What emotions do you hope to evoke in listeners with Volt EP?

Schott & Alicea: We wanted Volt EP to be a journey through different emotions and energies. Volt is pure peak-time power—it drives the crowd and inspires them to let go completely. Hunter is like a storm: intense but still soft, with those atmospheric dub elements that offer a deeper emotional layer. Chapulines brings a playful energy. Ultimately, we hope to evoke joy, energy, and connection—both to the music and to the people on the dancefloor.

Collaboration often involves compromise. How did you and Schott maintain your artistic voices on the EP?

Schott & Alicea: We complement each other perfectly because we have different strengths. Schott is more focused on production, especially straight, minimalistic Techno, while Alicea brings in diverse influences from other Techno subgenres like Dub Techno or Hardgroove. There wasn’t much need for compromise—we trust each other’s vision and know how to communicate without many words. Our creative process felt very natural.

Your tracks feel cinematic in their depth. Do visuals or imagery play a role in your creative process?

Alicea: Absolutely! For Flowing Dream, I collaborated with a talented 3D artist to create an animation. It features an angel floating in the clouds, inspired by the modern Y2K aesthetic. I’m a big fan of the current trend of 3D graphics, and I wanted the visual to reflect the dreamy, ethereal feeling of the track. The connection between visuals and music is powerful—it adds another layer to the listener’s experience. The animation has been really well received by my friends, and you can even see it on Spotify!

How does your personal life influence the themes you explore in your music?

Schott & Alicea: We live a calm and happy life—good jobs, no dramas, and a strong relationship. Music is our way of escaping the daily routine and experiencing something extraordinary. It’s our outlet for creativity and emotion, and it allows us to channel our experiences into sound.

Are there any specific moments or memories that inspired the EP’s tracks—Volt, Hunter, and Chapulines?

Schott & Alicea: The EP was directly inspired by our trip to Mexico. We experienced so much—from the energy of the clubs to the atmosphere of the streets—and we wanted to bring those memories into our music. Chapulines was even named after the loud grasshoppers we recorded during our trip. While the recording didn’t make it into the final track, the name stayed, as it reminds us of that funny moment. The EP reflects the spontaneity and creativity we felt during that time.

How do you see your music evolving in the next few years?

Alicea: I’m still at the beginning of my journey as a producer, but I already have so many ideas. I want to explore more subgenres, push boundaries, and experiment with new sounds. Our label will also focus on releasing music that feels innovative and which supports the local producer scene. I would also like to support more female artists! Schott has years of experience, and I’m learning so much from him. Together, we’re excited to keep growing and evolving our sound.

What role do soundscapes play in helping listeners connect to your music on a deeper level?

Alicea: Soundscapes are everything! They add dimension and depth to a track, helping listeners feel completely immersed. I use effects and textures to build layers that evoke a sense of place—whether it’s floating in a dreamlike state or dancing in a dark, smoky club. It’s all about creating an emotional journey that people can connect to.

If you could summarize your artistic vision in one sentence, what would it be?

Schott & Alicea: To create powerful, emotional Techno that connects people and brings the dancefloor to life.
