We caught up with their to talk about their creative judgment and the many influences behind their music.
Hey, where can we find you right now? How did you start your day? Hi there, at the moment Medusa’s Spite are in studio finalizing the new upcoming singles after “Destinations”. The day started with a powerful drum recorded of the new upcoming single we’re finalizing the on February 14, and planning to go back to Abbey Road for a new mixing. Can you tell us a little about your experience? Where are you from / how did you get into music? Was it all internet based?
We’re from the south of Rome, Italy we come for a lovely place called Roman’s Castles. We started very young listening to our brothers Depeche Mode tapes and grew up with an infinite passion for Uk electro-pop-rock and New Wave music. No at the time of our first album named Floating Around in 1999 internet was not an issue. We sold real copies through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Uk reaching USA. Who have been your main inspirations (both musical and in 'life')? And how have they affected your sound?
I’d say Depeche Mode, New Order, Mansun, EMF, Babylon Zoo, The Smashing Pumpkins and lately the French touch of very cool dj producers like Vitalic or Kavinsky or stylish bands like Air. How would you define your sound?
Generally Electro-Rock…today Electro-pop. How has your sound evolved so far?
We love to wander from one genre to another but with a romantic attitude and pure intents. We love to mix electro with classic and electric instruments. Music is something we didn’t choose. There’s no chance with music. You’re just an instrument when she decides to choose you. Are you the type of producer who can create music on the fly or do you need to be rooted in a studio?
No we’re more the kind of producers who love to give a first touch in their proper comfortable room. Or in a place we feel to be the proper one for the mood of a song. It could be in the mountains like for our first album where we retired for months. We use the studio only to clean our sound and gain power in dynamic. Generally we love our Spite Room to give form to our music. We’re not rooted in studios.
What can you tell us about your latest release “Destinations"? What have you wanted to convey?
“Destinations” means projection, perspective. It’s dedicated to all te people who are not in a position to travel. Physical, economic, mental condition. To people without perspective, without curiosity who mistake fantasy or dreams for weaknesses. And likewise they don’t travel. In the video we tell about a girl. Indeed, more girls. We tell about a girl who falling asleep in a bathtub slips into a tunnel, the tunnel of lust of luxury, power, desire. A continue self celebration who makes slaves so many girls or boys today through the social media in a delicate metaphor. The synthesis of the video is in the last frame where she’s ready again for a new pose, a new shot, a new catwalk. She is the girl.
How are you living the current situation because of COVID? Has your work affected a lot? Do you think there is hope?
There’s always hope when passion burns. Covid taught us who important and amazing is freedom. We continued producing because music is life for us, and if there was a doubt it taught us that music specially in a condition of so many restriction like this is a real medicine to survive. Yes it has effected it a lot, but strangely in a positive way because we’ve been more creative than ever and I think that for independent productions can be a good moment to gain exposure avoiding to be crushed by the big ones who just suffer the big music machine to be switched on and activated while in a moment of recession like this. I feel like the underground scene will continue to persist. Do you think we can go back to "normal" events and festivals?
“Alternative” is a way of being. It has nothing to do with fashion. It’s the strongest word in music I know. Yes I think this will finish and music will come back to a glorious age like the golden ones. I’m sure of it, we work for it. What projects are you working on at the moment?

El día comenzó con una potente batería grabada del nuevo single próximo que finalizaremos el 14 de febrero y planeamos volver a Abbey Road para una nueva mezcla.
¿Puedes contarnos un poco sobre tu experiencia? ¿De dónde eres / cómo te metiste en la música? ¿Fue todo basado en Internet?
Somos del sur de Roma, Italia, venimos por un lugar encantador llamado Roman's Castles.
Empezamos muy jóvenes escuchando las cintas de nuestros hermanos Depeche Mode y crecimos con una pasión infinita por el electro-pop-rock británico y la música New Wave.
No, en el momento de nuestro primer álbum llamado Floating Around en 1999, Internet no era un problema.
Vendimos copias reales a través de Alemania, Austria, Suiza, Reino Unido y llegamos a Estados Unidos.
¿Quiénes han sido tus principales inspiraciones (tanto musicales como en 'vida')? ¿Y cómo han afectado tu sonido?
Yo diría que Depeche Mode, New Order, Mansun, EMF, Babylon Zoo, The Smashing Pumpkins y últimamente el toque francés de productores de dj geniales como Vitalic o Kavinsky o bandas elegantes como Air.
¿Cómo definirías tu sonido?
Generalmente Electro-Rock… hoy Electro-pop.
¿Cómo ha evolucionado tu sonido hasta ahora?
Nos encanta pasear de un género a otro pero con una actitud romántica y pura intención.
Nos encanta mezclar electro con instrumentos clásicos y eléctricos.
La música es algo que no elegimos.
No hay posibilidad con la música.
Eres solo un instrumento cuando ella decide escogerte.
¿Eres el tipo de productor que puede crear música sobre la marcha o necesitas estar arraigado en un estudio?
No, somos más el tipo de productores a los que les encanta dar un primer toque en su cómoda habitación adecuada.
O en un lugar que nos parezca adecuado para el ambiente de una canción.
Podría ser en las montañas como en nuestro primer álbum donde nos retiramos durante meses.
Usamos el estudio solo para limpiar nuestro sonido y ganar potencia en dinámica.
Generalmente nos encanta nuestro Spite Room para dar forma a nuestra música.
No estamos arraigados en los estudios.
¿Qué nos puedes contar de tu último lanzamiento “Destinations”? ¿Qué has querido transmitir?
“Destinos” significa proyección, perspectiva.
Está dedicado a todas las personas que no están en condiciones de viajar. Condición física, económica, mental.
A personas sin perspectiva, sin curiosidad que confunden la fantasía o los sueños con debilidades.
Y tampoco viajan.
En el video contamos sobre una niña. De hecho, más chicas.
Hablamos de una niña que se queda dormida en una bañera y se desliza por un túnel, el túnel de la lujuria del lujo, el poder, el deseo.
Una auto celebración continua que hace esclavos a tantas niñas o niños hoy a través de las redes sociales en una delicada metáfora.
La síntesis del video está en el último cuadro donde está lista nuevamente para una nueva pose, una nueva toma, una nueva pasarela.
Ella es la chica.
¿Cómo estás viviendo la situación actual a causa de COVID? ¿Tu trabajo ha afectado mucho? ¿Crees que hay esperanza?
Siempre hay esperanza cuando la pasión arde.
Covid nos enseñó lo importante y sorprendente que es la libertad.
Seguimos produciendo porque la música es vida para nosotros, y si había alguna duda nos enseñó que la música especialmente en una condición de tanta restricción como esta es una verdadera medicina para sobrevivir.
Sí lo ha afectado mucho, pero curiosamente de forma positiva porque hemos sido más creativos que nunca y creo que para las producciones independientes puede ser un buen momento para ganar exposición evitando ser aplastados por los grandes que acaban de sufrir el Una gran máquina de música para encenderla y activarla en un momento de recesión como este.
Siento que la escena underground seguirá persistiendo. ¿Crees que podemos volver a los eventos y festivales "normales"?
“Alternativa” es una forma de ser.
No tiene nada que ver con la moda.
Es la palabra más fuerte en música que conozco.
Sí, creo que esto terminará y la música volverá a una época gloriosa como la dorada.
Estoy seguro, trabajamos para ello.
¿En qué proyectos estás trabajando en este momento?
Listo para cerrar el segundo single de nuestro nuevo proyecto abierto “Polaris”.
