INTERVIEW: Alex Breitling presents 'Lilie' EP [Purified Records]

Alex Breitling creates music that works in all settings and transcends genres. His openness to a wide range of sound is what has both made him a widely loved favourite, but also someone who operates in his own parallel musical world. We had a chance to talk to him, so enjoy your reading and check out his latest releases.

Hello Alex! Welcome to Chromatic Club. Where are we speaking to you from today? Hey Guys! Thanks for having me! I am speaking from Koblenz in Germany. Can you tell us a little about your experience in getting to where you are today as a producer? Where are you from / how did you get into music? I started out 12 years ago in Koblenz, when I stood outside an Electronic Club and asked the owner if I could play at the club sometime. He was cool and asked me to send a mix to him to check out and decide. After some gigs there, I ended up becoming a resident DJ, and then decided to produce my own music. My first release was ‘Lift Up’ on Armada Records, they found me on SoundCloud and were interested in having me release on their label. That was a really good feeling! I had a break in producing as I didn’t feel my tracks were good enough to release, but that was totally wrong and I wasted my time. In 2019 I came back into full on production mode and now here we are and I am releasing on Purified :) That says to me that I don’t do anything wrong!

Who have been your main inspirations (both musical and in "life")? And how have they affected your sound? I am a huge fan of the piano and whenever I hear a nice chord or some nice pieces of music like Ludovicio Einaudi, I want to make melodic productions. It's just the style of music which really inspires me to make music! How would you define your sound? How has your sound evolved so far? I love two different sounds. The melodic stuff where you can feel and think about it and then there is the club music like afro house or melodic techno. Where the groove brings you on the dancefloor. I like both of them and I just create the music I am really feeling on that day. It just has to feel right. What can you tell us about your latest album: 'Lilie'? What inspired you? What do you want to convey? Lilie is that melodic summer feeling EP to feel and think. I think it can bring you on the beach and give you some nice chill moments with friends and stuff. How was it working with the wonderful Purified Records label? This is my third EP on Purified and I love the energy and the support that the team gives the artists for their releases. It's important to get heard and they do everything they can to support smaller artists. Always a huge pleasure to release on Purified! What more projects are you working on? I am working on a lot of club stuff at this moment. I will be releasing a cool melodic techno EP on Somatic Records in September and I am always connecting with Monaberry for some New music. I love these guys too :) Do you have any final words of wisdom? If you love what you do and want to become successful in it, you have to work hard on it everyday! Keep the momentum going!
