(ENG) We have the great pleasure of interviewing the duo of djs and producers The Robinson, in full creative effervescence. They recently released: "Midway EP" (Taste Records) that is difficult to describe in words, except perhaps for how the compositions make you feel. It is an EP that will give a lot to talk about. And if not, come in, read and dance.
Hey, thanks for taking out time to answer these questions! So just to start seeing as this is your first time on the site, I thought we could talk about your first foray into dance music? What kicked things off for you?
Hi, it’s a pleasure for us to be here with you. It all started 9 years ago when we bought our first dj console and records. After performing over a number of years in various milanese settings, we decided to experiment with producing as a way of expressing our thoughts and feelings through a sound that was uniquely ours.
Can you tell us a little bit about your background? Where are you from / how did you get into music?
We’re brothers who come from a small town in the countryside which, despite being quite rural, actually used to have an impressive underground music scene. It was thanks to this that we quickly became kids of Italian club culture. It is easy to foster a passion for something that routinely gives you something to look forward to and allows you to dream and escape.
With new release about to drop on the label. Give us a little background on the "Midway EP" and what’s the story behind that title?
It’s been a lifelong dream of ours to visit Chicago, the home of House music, however it became fairly obvious that 2020 would not be the year for this summer trip, so we stayed home in Italy. The hot sweaty nights filled with beer and cigarettes became the backdrop to which we composed this EP. The name “Midway” is both a reference to Chicago’s international airport and the fact that our music is a mix of Italian and American House sounds.
What can you tell us about your "Midway EP" ? What did you want to transmit? What inspired you?
The album expresses our imminent desire to return to the dancefloor, through three tracks that represent three different moments of the night. Midway EP is influenced by the underground Chicago House grooves and 90s Italo House beats.
What has led you to emphasize this "Midway EP" in multiple genres? What draws you to these genres?
Music is meant to transport you, to take you to a place of peace and contemplation. What really works for us are the elegant dreamy melodies of Italo House music together with the deep rhythmic Chicago House sounds.
What does your studio look like right now? What type of hardware / software do you like to work with?
Unfortunately at the moment our studio is composed of very few machines, we have a drum machine, two keyboards and of course a computer. We use Logic to compose our tracks and make use of a studio to finish them off with mixing and mastering.
Who have been your main inspirations (Both musical and in ‘life’)? And how have they affected your sound?
It’s actually our parents who gave us this love of music, mainly thanks to our fathers’ wide collection of records and CDs of all genres and our mothers’ passion for singing. At the end of the day, each track we produce is deeply personal and always contains a piece of where we come from, whether it’s a feeling or a memory that comes to mind or the way in which the story of the EP is told.
How would you describe your own sound in 2020, and how do you see it developing in the future?
I guess you could say our music is VINTAGE FRESH. And it always will be!

¡Hola, gracias por tomarse el tiempo para responder estas preguntas! Entonces, para empezar a ver que esta es tu primera vez en el sitio, pensé que podríamos hablar sobre tu primera incursión en la música dance. ¿Qué fue lo que te puso en marcha?
Hola, es un placer para nosotros estar aquí contigo. Todo comenzó hace 9 años cuando compramos nuestra primera consola de DJ y discos. Después de actuar durante varios años en varios escenarios milaneses, decidimos experimentar con la producción como una forma de expresar nuestros pensamientos y sentimientos a través de un sonido que era exclusivamente nuestro.
¿Puedes contarnos un poco sobre tu experiencia? ¿De dónde eres / cómo te metiste en la música?
Somos hermanos que venimos de un pequeño pueblo del campo que, a pesar de ser bastante rural, en realidad solía tener una impresionante escena musical underground. Fue gracias a esto que rápidamente nos convertimos en niños de la cultura de club italiana. Es fácil fomentar la pasión por algo que habitualmente te da algo que esperar y te permite soñar y escapar.
Con nuevo lanzamiento a punto de caer en la etiqueta. Danos un poco de información sobre el "Midway" y ¿cuál es la historia detrás de ese título?
Ha sido un sueño de toda la vida visitar Chicago, el hogar de la música House, sin embargo, se hizo bastante obvio que 2020 no sería el año para este viaje de verano, así que nos quedamos en casa en Italia. Las noches calientes y sudorosas llenas de cerveza y cigarrillos se convirtieron en el escenario sobre el que compusimos este EP. El nombre "Midway" es tanto una referencia al aeropuerto internacional de Chicago como al hecho de que nuestra música es una mezcla de sonidos house italianos y estadounidenses.
¿Qué nos puedes contar de tu "Midway EP"? ¿Qué querías transmitir? ¿Qué te inspiró?
El disco expresa nuestro inminente deseo de volver a la pista de baile, a través de tres temas que representan tres momentos distintos de la noche. Midway EP está influenciado por los ritmos underground de Chicago House y los ritmos de Italo House de los 90.
¿Qué te ha llevado a enfatizar este disco en múltiples géneros? ¿Qué te atrae de estos géneros?
La música está destinada a transportarte, a llevarte a un lugar de paz y contemplación. Lo que realmente funciona para nosotros son las elegantes melodías de ensueño de la música Italo House junto con los profundos sonidos rítmicos del Chicago House.
¿Cómo es tu estudio ahora mismo? ¿Con qué tipo de hardware / software le gusta trabajar?
Desafortunadamente en este momento nuestro estudio está compuesto por muy pocas máquinas, tenemos una caja de ritmos, dos teclados y por supuesto una computadora. Usamos Logic para componer nuestras pistas y utilizamos un estudio para rematarlas con mezclas y masterización.
¿Quiénes han sido tus principales inspiraciones (tanto musicales como en 'vida')? ¿Y cómo han afectado tu sonido?
De hecho, fueron nuestros padres quienes nos dieron este amor por la música, principalmente gracias a la amplia colección de discos y CD de todos los géneros de nuestros padres y la pasión de nuestras madres por el canto. Al final del día, cada pista que producimos es profundamente personal y siempre contiene una parte de nuestra procedencia, ya sea un sentimiento o un recuerdo que me viene a la mente o la forma en que se cuenta la historia del EP.
¿Cómo describiría su propio sonido en 2020 y cómo ve que se desarrollará en el futuro?
Supongo que se podría decir que nuestra música es VINTAGE FRESH. ¡Y siempre lo será!
